For those of you who don't know, August is a very big month in south africa, it is Oppikoppi month. Home to one of the biggest music festivals in our country. For me it is 4 days of total heaven! No phones, No responsibilities, Friends, Music, Camping. Yes I said Camping, lots and lots of camping and if you are not a camper, this might be a problem, that is why I will be sharing my tips and tricks to surviving OPPIKOPPI!!!!
1. Drive safe:
Northam is a very long way, in a little town, a town so little that if it wasn't for Oppikoppi, no one would ever find it. The roads are dark, there are cows and goats running in the road, drunk oppi roadtrippers and don't even get me started on the pot holes. Make sure you drive safe.
2. Remember your tent.
I promise you it is much better sleeping on a blanket in a tent than in a car and even if you don't plan on sleeping the entire weekend. Just bring it, you can store your things in it.
3. Don't be a little bitch.
The toilets are far, The dust is bad, The showers are cold, The people are drunk. If you want to be a little bitch about everything, don't even bother showing up.
4.Bring enough water.
Even if you don't like water, bring enough and if you think you have enough, bring more. Oppikoppi is hot, you walk a lot, and there is always someone who needs water. Make sure you have enough for drinking, washing, brushing your teeth and washing your face.
5. Bring enough warm clothes.
It's much better to take something off than needing a warm jacket and you don't have one. The nights get very cold and if you don't have enough blankets you can always dress up in an extra jacket.
6. Enjoy every moment.
Make the best of every moment, this is a experience in a life time for every festival loving, hippy. Enjoy the heat, enjoy the cold, be friendly, drink to much, try something new, watch acts you never liked. Just do it!
36 more days to Oppikoppi people.. Let's start building the excitement.
